Quilted & Bound

i have completely finished my scrappy trip around the world quilt. quilted and bound.
the weather outside is icky so sorry for the pics.

i quilted it myself with just an all over swirl pattern.  simple.

for the back i used up the balance of my strips from my blocks making a row of patchwork and a section of the extra strips.  the rest is a Kona Cotton grey.

for the binding i used another DS print.  this one from the line that was in JoAnn stores.  so the whole quilt with the exception of the Kona on the back is DS.  i am very please with it.  it reminds me of a vintage/older quilt.  i am also very happy to have a completed quilt just 23 days into the new year.

my next WIP project i am working on is my Swoon quilt using Parisville from Tula Pink.  i have 3 blocks done and need to make 6 more.  i also have some quilting to get done on another Tula Pink project.  oh the choices…….

last night i worked on a Swoon block while i chatted on Twitter with other quilters.  every Tuesday evening from 6pm to 8pm pst a bunch of quilters get on Twitter and talk about a variety of things related to quilting.  if you haven’t sat in on a #talknt on Tuesday night you might check it out.  its a great way to learn things and meet fellow quilters.

Some Sewing…..

i have been sewing some these last couple of days.

i didn’t really stop sewing when all of the chaos started in my life this past year.  i just didn’t blog much.  so, i have a lot of stuff to share.  some of which i still can’t share because not everyone has received their Christmas gifts from me yet.  once that has happened i will show you those as well.

i did get behind on bee blocks.

November’s for Linda

December’s for Shannon

finished my Fat Quarter Shop Mystery BOM top from 2010.

sewed up backings for 3 quilt tops.  this is the only one that has a little spunk to it.  its called being resourceful and using what you got.

all 3 quilts stacked neatly with their backs.  ready for batting and some quilting.

i even got the bindings ready as well.  yeah me.

now for something new.  there is a lot of chatter out in blogland about A Scrappy Trip Along.  i am jumping on board.  you can check out the flickr group as well.

Looking Back & Moving Forward

looking back

on January 1st of this year i did a blog post titled ‘Resolutions‘.  in that post i listed five things that i wanted to do this year.

1.  sell my house
going on the market shortly
2.  continue blogging
did so – so on this one
3.  spend more time with these monsters
i think i accomplished this
who wouldn’t want to spend time with these two

4.  see DMB more then i did in 2011
i didn’t make this one but priorities change
5.  (maybe) travel some
Houston, Chicago, Orlando, Seattle, Las Vegas

in that same blog post i also listed four resolutions that were mental or emotional things that i wanted to strive towards.

1.  to rise above the little things
2.  continue to live in the present
3.  spend my energy on the things that i can control
4.  live for myself

i do believe that i have been true to the four items listed above and i plan to stay on that path.  keeping those four things in mind helps me to realize just how small some problems/issues really are.

the first part of 2012 was calm and quiet compared to the last half.  i long for calm and quiet again.  i know that it is somewhere in my future.

the passing of my grandfather in July was hard.  he was 98 and it was his time to go, but knowing that hasn’t made it any easier.  shortly after that my family faced some challenges that we are still working through and will follow us into 2013.

in October my dad unexpectedly passed away and changed all of our lives forever. i miss him every second, every minute, every day.

my post from January 1st 2012 saidi know that 2012 will also bring lots of changes as well as some challenges.  at the time i wrote that i never thought there would be so many tough times ahead for me.  for the past 6 months i have been overwhelmed with emotion from the changes in my life.  some days it takes everything I have just to get through it.

minute by minute
hour by hour
day by day
week by week

with each passing week i move forward into my new life not knowing the answers to a multitude of questions.  hoping and praying for the pain to lessen and for some sense of normalcy to return to my life.

WIP Wednesday

what a week it has been for me. i am glad that i have had some sewing to get me some what grounded.
this fun little pile came from making 2 bee blocks for a group that i am in. gotta love making hst.

i hope that she likes her blocks as much as i do.

i also made some burp clothes for some new baby’s that were born in the past few weeks. my cousins were each expecting & they had their daughters just a little over 4 hours apart. just enough time that they don’t share the same birthday.

i worked on my 3rd H2H quilt & got the top done. its a simple top that didn’t take long at all. i ended up cutting out some of the castles and appliqued them to a solid green block. just a touch of whimsy for the center of the quilt.

now i need to figure out the backing and get it quilted and bound.

i also finished the last blocks for my Opening Day quilt. now i just need to lay it all out & get the top sewin together.

i have another friend expecting a baby girl soon & she is doing brown, orange & pink. i found this great print when i was in Boise a few weeks back.

i am pairing it up with 4 patches of brown & orange as well as a few with pink in them as well. she was very specific ‘not to much pink.’

i have also started to hack up this stack of fabric. i picked this up in Boise as well. i am a huge fan of Sweetwater & i love their Countdown To Christmas line.

i am doing Rachel’s quilt along over at ps i quilt. so far we have just been told to cut but i am looking forward to the end result.
that has been my progress this past week. i am looking forward to a weekend of sewing again. i need to prep my fabric for Sisters which is 2 weeks away. i can’t believe it is that close. i am sort of freaking out wondering where this year has gone.
i have also had a few doctor appointments this past week. today will be my 4th one. lots of windshield time. i have issues with my health & when i was in Boise something new developed & so 3 docs & 4 appointments later we might have a solution to this new development. my whole health thing can become overwhelming if i let it. so i stay busy sewing a lot so i don’t really think about it.
i hope that you are making progress on whatever you are working on. i have read a lot on blogs that people slow down in the warmer weather & don’t sew as much. not me. i hate the heat so i live in my basement during the summer months & sew to my hearts content.

Camp Update #2 & More

quilt camp is over & i have been suffering from quilt camp hangover for a few days now – thats probably why i haven’t gotten around to a 2nd post about quilt camp. oh & the fact that i had to head out of town for some doc appts yesterday.
before i left for camp this lovely little jelly roll showed up at my house. i won a jelly roll of my choice from Fat Quarter Shop & so i picked Origins which i have been wanting for awhile.

before we get to quilt camp pics i have to show you my purchases from yesterday. one of my doc’s is right by my fav quilt shop so of course i had to go there. i picked up some yardage of Origins to go with my jelly roll as well as some yardage of Pure to go with my charm packs that i got from jaybird. i also found some backing for some quilts in their sale hall – best place to buy quilt backing.
on my way back home i stopped in a quilt shop in Colfax that has been there about a year but I have never been to. i am glad i stopped because i found backing for a BOM quilt made out of Peace On Earth at 40% off (its the fabric on the bottom).

now for quilt camp pics
while we were at camp there was another quilt group there & one of its members brings bolts a fabric to sell from her friends shop. awesome right??? i found the following there. the floral will be made into a bag & the other 2 will go with 2 charm packs i have.

Debbie busted out 5 bags and a few Snap Happy smaller bags.

Steph’s ipad sleeve which the pattern came from the Moda Bake Shop.
i took my serger for pj pants & more pillowcases for the million pillowcase challenge.

quilt camp is not all work – as you can see in these pics we had a lot of fun as well including water fights with our irons.

here is a quilt camp group with Max and Dozer the lodge’s dogs.
thanks ladies i had a blast!!!

my friend Shelly wasn’t able to join us at camp due to the passing of her grandfather & we all missed her greatly. however, plans are in the work for her to come to my place & sew next month.
believe it or not i head out again a week from today for another quilt camp. this time its just the Renegades & we are headed to a home in McCall for 5 days. its just the 4 of us & we cook our own meals but we keep it simple so we can get as much sewing done as possible.
