We have power!!!!!!

we left town knowing there wasn’t power at the lodge. our thought process was to get there, get unloaded and get setup before dark so that when we did get power we would be good to go.
a couple items got taken out before i took this pic. Sharon & i came up together. the couple that own the place were not here when we got here but that didn’t mater we just started unloading & moving in. once Lane & Shirley (the owners) showed up the power came back on!!!!!!
we all CHEERED & got back to work.
here is a pic with only a few of us in the room. stay tuned to watch it fill up & see what gets created over the next few days.

Oz

at 1 am this morning the high winds started & i was beginning to wonder if we were going to end up in Oz. 20 mph, 30 mph, 40 mph, 50 mph you get the idea all the way up to 85 mph. a barge that was tied to the north side of the river broke free & crashed into the south side of the river during the wind storm. a 60 to 80 passenger jet boat broke free from somewhere & ended up on the rocky banks of the Snake River. needless to say i have been up since then & everything has been upside down and backwards today.
we were suppose to leave for quilt camp tomorrow morning at 6am, however Palouse Divide Lodge is without power & it won’t be restored until tomorrow sometime. i feel like a balloon that has had all the air let out of it……. all ready to go (not really) then the plans are put on hold.
getting ready for a 5 day quilt camp is no easy task. usually lots & lots of planning goes into it. not this time…. it was more of a rush job.
i still have these fat quarters to cut as well as a bag pattern to cut out as well. oh, make that 2 bags to cut out. i am a super dork when it comes to quilt camp. i like to have everything precut & ready to go. with 39 of us the cutting tables will be busy & i get a lot more done with everything ready to go.
this is my tub of projects with a few supplies thrown in. its waiting for those bags & fat quarters before it can go upstairs. i take this tub to every camp i go to. its great because it has wheels on it & i just roll it under my table & when i need something i roll it out. it also is a great extra table top when space is tight.

up stairs i already have my large cutting mat, side table, 2 quilts ready to be quilted & my back massager & heating pad. don’t laugh those get used a lot.

as well as ‘Betty’ my sewing machine, thread box & my chair.
i am off to tackle those bags & fat quarters….. thank goodness my clothes are already packed.

i will be blogging from camp for the next 5 days. i am sure there will be some great stuff to share with you all.

Be…..

every once in awhile i come across something that just speaks to me & its usually jumped in front of me a few times because i can be slow to catch on. i had seen this plaque in a few gift type catalogs, it had caught my eye but it wasn’t until i stopped & read it that i said, “that’s me.” i clipped it out of the catalog & now carry it with me as a reminder. it has sort of become my mantra……

Currently my favorite….

i showed this pic within the last week or so…..
a quilt that i had been quilting myself.
i didn’t put the yummy fabrics together. it was a kit that i got from…….. i can’t remember where. anyways, it was a kit & i had sewed up the top over a year ago at a quilt camp & put it in my tub of tops to be quilted thinking at the time that i would send it out to be quilted.
over this past year or so i have learned more about machine quilting & i am starting to enjoy it more & more. so, i decided to tackle this quilt myself. once i got it all basted i fell in love with it all over again. its totally me.

sorry for the bad pics, i was pushing it to get outside before it got to dark.
i shadow quilted the petals & then replicated the petals in the smaller plain blocks as well as the final boarder. i used a decorative stitch in the striped boarder using a variegated green thread in the light green areas.

by no means is it perfect but quilting is a learning process & i am loving it. i am pushing myself out of my comfort zone & i think i am getting a little better with every quilt.

i pieced the back with all of the scraps & its like i have a separate quilt. i love the back as well.

i really love this quilt. i know i already said it but its true. its currently my favorite quilt & will more then likely hold that spot for awhile. maybe forever.
********
getting ready for quilt camp is still a work in process. we leave Wednesday morning at 6am. i have some stuff ready but need to work on more.

An odd story

this post is so not quilting related but its such an odd story i have to share. last night was the rival college football game for the state of Idaho – Boise State University vs. University of Idaho & it was played in Moscow where the U of I is located – about 30 minutes from here.
********
before the game i sent my younger brother, who lives in the Boise area, a text that went something like “do you want to place a bet on who will win. haha. maybe we better bet on the score.” he came back with “yes betting on the score would be better.” i texted back with “52 to 14” & he came back with “64 to 21”. so the bet was on even though we had no idea what we are betting on.
keep in mind BSU is nationally ranked so no one in their right mind expected U of I to win & that was the case BSU beat U of I.
but what was the score you ask…..
BSU 52 U of I 14
Vandals bombed by Boise State was the sports headline in the Lewiston Morning Tribune today.
when i sent the text to my brother i just threw out a WAG (wild ass guess) i had no idea how accurate my WAG would be.
********
back to the world of sewing. i will be getting ready for quilt camp over the next couple of days. still have no plan, no idea what i am taking, maybe i will WAG it again or just punt & pray……

My other machine

over a year ago all of us Renegades were going to a quilt camp & i wanted to make pillow cases & pj pants. so my cousin, Lynette who has a serger offered to bring hers to camp for me to use. needless to say it was love a first sew. i serged up the pillow cases and pj pants in no time flat & made the decision that i was getting a serger. my friend Sharon used it as well and fell in love just like me. so a few months went by & we made the trek to the sewing machine store & both came home with a serger. we just got the basic model but it does everything that i want it to do and i LOVE it.
i had bought some home dec fabric 100 yrs ago for new living room pillows. well, i finally have serged up those pillows & i love them so much that i went & got some more fabric to make some more pillows.
i got more of the floral fabric – i love the bright orange, red and green flowers on it.
i think that a serger is a great machine to have. once you learn how to thread them you are good to go. everyone in my family got pj pants last year for Christmas & i am sort of leaning that way again this year…… maybe
********
on another note,
in 4 days i leave for my last quilt camp of the year. we are headed back to Palouse Divide Lodge & there will be 39 of us. this weekend i will be crazy busy prepping my projects for 5 solid days of sewing. i know that i will be making some bags but other then that i have nothing planned out. crazy i know…. me not planning…. what has come over me????
