Some New Things

had to go to the big city this past week & so i stopped at one of my favorite quilt shops while i was there & this is what i got.
Amy Butler’s new book. i have seen a few bags made from this book online & i knew i had to have this book. i have paged through it a few times & i am excited to make some of them – heck all of them. i already have the perfect fabric for the Cosmo bag – i just hope i have enough of it……
i also got this fabric while i was at the shop. the top 3 were all on sale 30% off. the blue one is from the same line that i cut my tumblers from using the Studio cutter. i will use this for a boarder & binding for that quilt. the other 2 greens will be pj pants – i think. the brown is just for the stash.

yesterday in the mail i received my 1st block back from my Let’s Bee Together online quilting bee. its from Shannon & i love how it looks. i am looking forward to the others arriving.
********
this weekend i have to work some of it but the rest of it will be spent sewing – working on my nieces quilt. what are you doing this weekend? something fun & exciting, maybe some sewing or watching the super bowl?

WIP Wednesday

about a year ago at a quilt camp i met this great group of quilters who have a quilt shop about 45 minutes from me. sad to say, but it has taken me almost a year to get there. its called Material Girls Quilting & its a great shop with fabric, supplies, patterns, a big classroom & an accuquilt Studio Fabric Cutter. they rent out the cutter so people like me can come & chop up their fabric. so this past Saturday my friend Sharon & i had a road trip to Material Girls Quilting to use their cutter.
i got this fat quarter bundle sometime ago & really didn’t know what i was going to do with it – shocking i know. it caught my eye, i liked the colors & it was on sale. so while i was thinking about what i wanted to cut on the machine this bundle came to mind & the tumbler dye came to mind as well.

so, in about 10 minutes i had my 20 fat quarters cut up into tumblers. the Studio Fabric Cutter is amazing. you can cut between 8 & 10 layers at a time.

my next fabric that i picked to hack up on the machine was my Poppy fat quarters & i knew i wanted to do drunkards path with them.

they were a little more time consuming getting them on the dye. the way i folded the fat quarter on the dye i was able to get 2 blocks out of 1 fat quarter with very little waste.

i think that these will be fun to put together & see how they look. i have no idea when they will get put together but they are cut & this is something that i would never take the time to do by hand so it was well worth the trip there.

this is Sharon getting her fabric ready for the machine.

this past week i was able to finish up my postage stamp quilt & i love it. all the fabric came from my stash so i think that is a double bonus.

this is the fabric for my next project. a quilt for my niece who is going to be joining the world in about 7 weeks – that’s if she doesn’t come early like her big sister did.

********
i am headed to the big city for a couple doctor appointments & i have a gift card to one of my favorite quilt shops that i got for Christmas. check back to see what i get with that gift card.

WIP Wednesday

this past week i worked on a few different projects.
1st – i sewed up 2 blocks for the Fat Quarter Shop’s BOM. one of these blocks had 40 plus pcs and the other had 50 plus pcs.

i finished the binding on 2 quilts & sewed the binding on a 3rd. i still need to hand stitch that one down so you might see it next week.

i have also been working on my postage stamp quilt that i am doing with Rachel over at p.s. i quilt.
i got all of my strip sets sewed together & cut apart.

i did not use jelly rolls – i used fabric from my stash.

now i am to the part of sewing the blocks together.

i have also cut into my Make Life stash (gasp).
i am making up packages of it & sending it out to my Let’s Bee Together sewing buddies. February is my month.

when you come back next Wednesday i hope to have the postage stamp quilt top together & who know what else i will be working on.
hope you all have a great week.

Freaking out……

i am freaking out because of this
********
2011 is our 20th anniversary as a band and we want to celebrate by playing music together. While we are still taking the year off from touring, we have decided to plan four multi-day, multi-artist music events that will take place this summer. We will be sending out save the date emails and announcing more information soon but we wanted to share the news with our fans first.
********
after seeing this band for numerous years i thought this was going to be a year without that. i was wrong………….. i hate to be wrong but in this situation i am okay with that. i am on cloud 9 & will be for awhile. a year without them was going to be a challenge for me – a very passionate fan – but we don’t have to go there & you don’t have to listen to me complain about it.
i have no idea where or when they will be playing but you can bet i will be there for at least a couple of the shows.
they never cease to amaze me…. forever dancing…

kicking off 2011

i am having a slow kick-off to 2011 with regards to sewing.
buying fabric is another story.
********
at the end of 2010 i heard about another online sewing bee. it had openings & so i joined up with the group. its called Let’s Bee Together.
this is my 1st block for the group & its Linda’s block.
my month is February so i have been getting my fabric ready & block pattern picked.
********
i belong to another online sewing bee. its called Bee Splendid & this month is Molly’s month. below are the blocks that i made for her.

now for the other story. the fabric purchases so far in 2011.
if you don’t shop online for your fabric you are missing out. there were some fabulous deals to be had at various online shops at year end.

i have a thing for owls & this flannel just screamed pj pants.

i got these 2 flannels at JoAnn’s on sale.

some Origins on sale as well as 2 other fabrics for some more pj pants.

i got this kit above from Fat Quarter Shop & is going to be for my new niece who is due to arrive mid March.

last but not least i got this backing for a quilt for my niece who is going to be a big sister in March.
i got all of this fabric at 40% to 50% off. i’m tellin ya checkin out the online fabric shops is totally worth it.
********
i went to Dallas this past week. i took some hand work with me but didn’t touch it at all. when i wasn’t working i was sleeping even on the planes. i am planning on life getting back to ‘normal’ over the next week or so. that means getting back to sewing on a regular basis.

a few Christmas gifts

i got a few Christmas gifts that i wanted to share with you all.
if you have been reading my blog for awhile then you know that i have a group of friends & we call ourselves the Renegade Quilters. it all started a couple of years ago on a trip to Sister’s & it has evolved from there. there are just 4 of us & we are always together at the various quilt camps, quilt shows & whatever else may strike our fancy.
this year for Christmas Lynette made us all these AWESOME notebook covers.
she personalized them with our initial of our 1st name. i totally love the embroidery on the A. below is some additional initials that have meaning to the 4 of us which she embroidered the full words on the back of the cover. next our year we were established & then on mine she put ‘founder’ because i named our group.
here is a shot of the inside of mine. Lynette personalized them for each of us based on our favorite colors as well as the additional initials that are specific to each of us.
we all acted like little girls on Christmas morning when we opened these.
thanks Lynette – great idea!
********
the next gift i want to share with you came from my friend Debbie. Debbie told me that when she saw this she thought of me right away.

it is going to be hung in the quilting cave.
********
last but not least comes the gift i got from Steph. i knew that she was making aprons this year for Christmas presents but i had no idea what mine would look like.
here it is….

sorry about the pic – hard to take one when you have no model.
i LOVE the fabric. all retro & fun.

my favorite is the girl reading in the chair which must have been Steph’s as well because that is what she used for the pocket on the apron.

now for the funny part.
i called Steph to thank her for it & to tell her how much i LOVE the fabric & that i want to get some of it. Steph says to me, “you should love it because you picked it out.” i was confused, no big surprise there. Steph explained that when we were in Sister’s this year i found said fabric & Steph told me that she would make my apron out of it for me. i still don’t remember that convo but i believe her & i am so happy because i really do LOVE this fabric & she even has some left over to share with me.
my apron arrived in this simple brown bag with the following tag on it.

its the same bag that i gave Steph her gift in last year. if you look close enough you can see where she whited out the ‘to’ & ‘from’ & swapped the names. so i guess we have a new tradition going on now. i will have to make sure that her gift next Christmas fits in this bag & get out my white out.
********
check back tomorrow because i am FINALLY posting the giveaway – it involves ‘jelly’ and a ‘roll’. & yes i know i am a total dork.

A little bit more of 2010

i can finally show you the last projects that i did for 2010. i got this pattern from Fat Quarterly’s holiday issue. its the lined boxed zipper bag however i made them larger. the finished size of mine are 11″x7 1/2″x3″. i made a total of 4 of these green ones with the ‘crafty’ themed fabric for my Renegades for Christmas.

then, i made this one for Steph because we watched Project Runway together this past season & once i found this fabric i knew i needed to make something out of it for her.

another little hobby of mine is collecting quotes especially inspirational quotes. i have a whole sketch book full of them that i have cut out of magazines & i also have a file on my computer full of the ones i have found online. i wanted to do something with them this year for Christmas gifts for a few people. so…….

this is what i came up with. i made little books using thick foam, fabric, mod podge, card stock & some rings to hold it all together.

i put 40 quotes in each book & each book contains the same quotes just in different order. i made 9 of these books & it was surprisingly easy.
i love the different colors of card stock – bright & cheery.

and, of course the book would not have been complete without a quote from Dave.

********

i also wanted to share with you a pattern i won on-line from Holly Hill Quilt Designs. i got to pick which one i wanted & so i picked this holiday themed one. not sure when i will get to it but i think it will be a fun one to make.

i also finished up the last block for my block swap box group. i am thinking that we will be doing it again however i don’t think we will start until March or so.

i have a long week ahead of me at work so who knows how much sewing i will get done. but, i will give it one heck of a try.

also, with all of the great sales going on online i will have some fabric purchases to share with you soon as well.

A year of travels

it has been a year of travel for me.
January 2010 took me to Washington DC
there i got to see Colin Powell speak.
do a little sight seeing.

& see Natalie Cole perform.

then the end of January was a trip to McCall for sewing & a mini trip to Boise to see my niece.

in March i went to a quilt camp at Palouse Divide Lodge – no pic of that.
in April i went back to Boise for more time with my niece.
also in April I went to St. Louis for work – no pic of that either.
in May it was the trip of a lifetime – all expenses paid – to the island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands.

on that trip we also sailed to Jost Van Dyke which is a British Virgin Island.
June was a month filled with doctors apts & several trips to Spokane.

in July a group of us headed to Sisters, OR for the Outdoor Quilt show.
i also went to Houston in July for work – no pics.
i was home the whole month of August except for the last few days when i made a quick trip to Boise to see DMB with my brother & SIL.
September kicked off with spending Labor Day weekend at the Gorge seeing DMB with Steph.

mid September i took a quick trip to Chicago to see DMB at Wrigley.

the end of September brought another quilt camp at Palouse Divide Lodge.

in October i went back to McCall with the Renegade’s for another quilt camp.

in November it was back to Palouse Divide Lodge for yet another quilt camp.
December was a trip to Seattle to see Dave & Tim as well as a quick weekend trip to Boise to see my family there – no pics of that trip.
********
looking back over 2010 i realize just how much i got to see & do & i am so grateful for the opportunities that my life brought me this past year.
i don’t expect to be traveling as much in 2011 however right out of the gate in January i am headed to Dallas for work. March will bring a trip to Boise to welcome my new niece. July we will head to Sister’s again. August to California for work. & i am hoping for some quilt camps scattered in there somewhere through out the year.

Christmas Song

i have been crazy busy with getting all of my holiday projects/gifts finished up & wrapped up. i think that by tonight i should be finished but since i am running on about 3 hrs of sleep i have no idea what tonight will bring. especially since i have family coming into town tonight & i will be there to see my niece. oh well, i can see the finish line & i will get there come heck or high water.
********
today i have a video to share with you all. since i am a Dave Matthews freak i got an email yesterday from the freak, oh i mean fan club & it was a Merry Christmas message from Dave & this video of him & Tim Reynolds performing the Christmas Song in Vegas last year. i read that, hit play & about 20 seconds in i realized i was as that show. yep, my ace of a friend Stephanie & i flew into Vegas that morning, caught the show & flew out the next morning. awesome memories from that trip.
needless to say, this song ranks in my top 10 Dave songs so i thought i would share it with you all. i hope you enjoy it.
i have figured out my giveaway item so look for that post sometime after Christmas. i will also try & get some pics of my projects so you all can see what i have been working on.
********
i wish each & everyone of you a Happy & Healthy Holiday.

Time Flys

WOW…….
time really does fly doesn’t it????
i have got about 15 days worth of work to do & only 9 or so days to get it all done in. i am about to the point of what gets done gets done & what doesn’t doesn’t. i am sure you are all familiar with what i am talking about. some how life has a sneaky way of interrupting my plans…..
********
awhile back Hip Fabric had a giveaway on their blog & i won. i got to pick 5 Parisville fat quarters. this is my 1st Parisville & i am completely in LOVE with this line of fabric. i am planning on adding to this stash with some Christmas gifts – we will see how well Santa listened to me. Thank You Hip Fabric!!!!
in my last post i told you that we did some shopping when we were in Seattle. below is some pics of what i got.

i love this color combination. i am thinking a bag with it. i found this in a quilt shop in Woodenville.

we then ventured to Bothell & it was an adventure even with printed directions we had to turn around about 3 times & finally call the shop for directions. it was totally worth it because I found 2 charm packs of Plume & some yardage. as well as the Pure print that i have been looking for – its going to be binding on a quilt. the other was a fun print in their sale section & again i am thinking bag.
********
now onto some holiday related stuff.
another hobby i have is stamping which i mostly just make cards with. each year i make my own Christmas cards so i thought i would share it with you. two of my favorite things. moose & the color green.

i thought that they would be quick & easy to make. well, card making is sort of like quilt making. you start out with a plan & it evolves from there. it wouldn’t have been too bad if i only had 10 to make but by the time i was done with 50 i was beginning to think i was stupid for changing my original idea. needless to say they are done & going in the mail today.
********
last night after i finished up these cards i cut out a quilt that i will sew together tonight. its super simple so i am keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. i will then need to quilt & bind it. i have another quilt awaiting its binding as well. i won’t bother telling you the status of the other 3 quilts……
like i said lots to do. who needs sleep anyways???
check back to see my progress……….
