My Favorite Quilt……..

STACKS

my favorite quilt of all time…. since i have been making quilts.

i don’t have a fancy smancy camera so i did the best that i could with what i got.  if you read my blog you know the story behind this quilt.  if not, check it out here.  its from a class i took from Tula Pink last year.

a few close up pics of my favorite parts of the quilt.  i love the squirrels.
the pinwheels intermixed with the other various sizes of fabrics makes this such a fun and happy quilt.
more squirrels.  i love fussy cutting fabric.

the back.  i found the fabric in a quilt shop not to far from me called Material Girls in their clearance section.  that is one of my things i do when i visit quilt shops.  i seek out their clearance section and see what they might have for possible backings.

Teresa from Quilting Is My Bliss quilted this quilt for me.  i met her at the Tula Pink class last year.  she did a honeycomb pattern all over the quilt and I LOVE IT!!!  the quilt was waiting on my door step one evening when i got home.  once i opened the box and saw Teresa’s amazing quilting i was so happy.  like Christmas morning happy when i was 6.

this quilt has so many happy memories for me.  i love the fabric.  it was a great trip to Walla Walla for me.  an amazing class where i met some really cool quilt people.  Teresa being one of them.

i had the binding ready and waiting so it went on the quilt a few days later.

this quilt is headed for my bed.  i made 4 pillowcases to go with it and i just ordered a purple dust ruffle.  silly i know but I LOVE THIS QUILT.  once its all together on my bed i will share a few more pics.

Stacks – my favorite quilt of all time

it makes me so happy during a time when i really need it.  that also might have something to do with why I LOVE IT so much.

my Grandmother passed away this past week.  she lived to be 92 and had a great life.  i have lost 3 people that i was very close to in the past 9 months. my Grandpa, my Dad and my Grandma.  i know we are never given more then we can handle but……..  we could really use a break so if any of you are into sending good thoughts out to people we could really use some right now.

Cartwheel Finished

i am happy to report that i have finished my Cartwheel quilt.
if you are a reader of my blog you know i started this at a class at Sisters that Tula Pink taught.
in 2011.

better late then never…..
right???

i used Tula’s Prince Charming fabric for this quilt.

i quilted this myself.
quilting something different in each one of the spokes in the wheels.

i quilted swirls in the background fabric.

i love this quilt.
not a little love but a lot of love this quilt.

the back.  i love pieced backs.

a little whimsical fun for the back.

the binding.  simple.

i love this quilt.

seriously love this quilt.

just in case you didn’t get it before.
i love this quilt!!!!

Scrappy Trip Around The World

my 1st finish of 2013…..
my Scrappy Trip Around The World quilt.  i first blogged about it here and i am very happy to say it is done.  not the whole quilt just the top but that alone feels GREAT!!!!

when i started this quilt i was just using Flea Market Fancy but then figured i would need some more fabric to make the size i wanted.  so i busted into my Katie Jump Rope stash.

i (as randomly as possible) put strip sets of 6 together.  sewed them up.  cut them apart.

unsewed.  and finally sewed the blocks together.

i started this at the end of December and i had 3 blocks done before i had to leave on a trip.

once back from my trip i got back to sewing, cutting, unsewing and then sewing again.

my stack of blocks grew.

and fairly quickly i had them all made and laid out and
the rows sewed together.

and the quilt top finished.

i am very happy with this quilt.  i love, love, love how scrappy it is.  i also love the pops of dark in the quilt.  i think i did a decent job of scattering them throughout the top.

i am pretty dang happy with my first finish of 2013.  completed in under a month from cutting to a finished top.

tonight i will work on the backing which will be scrappy as well and then i will see about the quilting.  i might do this one myself.  thinking that a bunch of swirls would look good on it.

Two more done

two more done…..
i did not quilt these quilts. i sent them out to be quilted and i couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.
i fell in love with the Countdown To Christmas line last year and this is my first quilt from that line. i put flannel on the back so it will be extra cozy this winter.
i have also developed a love for striped bindings. i think it gives the quilt a little something extra.

the second quilt is also a Christmas themed quilt.  its one of those race quilts that you make with a jelly roll.  me being me had to have all of the snowmen going the same direction.  of course i didn’t realize that until after i had sewed my first seam.  needless to say some unsewing was involved but all snowmen are going the same way now.
more striped binding.

this is what i am quilting on now.  my Neptune hexi quilt.  i am about half way done with the quilting on it and i am loving how it is turning out.
i have one more set of boarders to sew on to my Stacks quilt that i did in class with Miss Pink.  once i get those on i will do a post for that class and quilt.

Bindings….

a binding we may go… a binding we may go…  hi ho the dairy oh – a binding we may go…
as you may know i have had several quilts to get quilted and then to bind.  i made a deal with myself – no new projects until i got caught up on these.  well, i made a huge dent in the list.  above there are 6 completed quilts.  quilted and bound.  whew.  now if you add in the 2 that i did for the H2H charity project that would be a total of 8 quilts completed in a short period of time.
yes, i am doing the happy dance.
but only for a short time.  i still have 4 quilts yet to quilt and then still to bind once they are quilted.  ugh.  but at least 6 are knocked out and done.
when the weather gets nice i will take these outside and get some better pictures and post those.

WIP Wednesday

hey there. i know i am a day late with this. but, as they say. better late then never right? i did some sewing this past weekend but not anything that i can show you. what i can show you are these two adorable monsters.

my brother & his family came into town this past weekend. i got to help watch the girls for a couple of nights. my brother & SIL were worried that the little one would be hard for me at bedtime. she was a dream. the big monster was another story. in short it was 10:00 or after by the time she got to bed & grandma did the trick both nights.

i love this pic. i just had to share it. she is so much fun with her faces and noises that she is making.
this past week i did finish up Roxanne’s baby quilt. i think i showed you a pic of it but it wasn’t bound yet.

i just did simple diagonal quilting on it.

the backing is flannel.

went together super quick. the baby was due August 7th & i wanted to get it to Roxanne before she had her.

today is August 11th & poor Roxanne still hasn’t had the baby. we are all trying to come up with ways to get her to go into labor. its pretty funny around here.
on another note. i see that i am almost to 100 followers. once i hit 100 i will have to find something to giveaway. so spread the word & lets get those 2 additional followers.
22 days until the Gorge & Dave Matthews Band. woo hoo.
hope you all are having a great week.

WIP Whatever…

remember this stack of fabric i showed you sometime ago? lovely isn’t it? anyways, i was sent this fabric along with a pattern to sew up a quilt top for Karen from Venezie Designs for her shop.
the pattern I did was Chain Reaction from Cluck. Cluck Sew. so that pile of fabric turned into this quilt.

not the best pic but its set in a nice grey solid.

it was an easy pattern to make & i loved working with colors that i normally don’t work with.

thanks Karen for letting me be a part of your shop on the other side of the country.

my health still has been somewhat of an issue so i haven’t spent much time with my machine lately. i am planning on sitting down this evening to do some quilting.
wish me luck.

Sara’s Baby Quilt

i have a great friend Sara who is expecting her 2nd child which is a girl. i told her that i wanted to make her a quilt & i asked her what her colors were going to be. orange, brown & pink. i had never worked with those colors together before. Sara was specific “not a lot of pink”.

so this is what i came up with. a main fabric with all 3 colors in it set with simple 4 patches done mostly in brown and oranges with a few pinks mixed in.

i love how it turned out. it is so Sara. funky with a little edge to it.
the backing was fun as well.
i picked up this print on a trip to Seattle thinking i would use it to make a bag. but when i went looking for a back for the quilt this was a perfect fit.
colors were smack on & the touch of whimsy fit right in as well.
i am looking forward to giving it to Sara this week & seeing the look on her face. i hope that she is as pleased with it as i am.

WIP Wednesday

for today’s post its nothing that i am in the middle of. its a couple of finishes that i got done this past week or so. two quilts both out of French General’s Rouenneries.
i love the colors of this line – which is why i made 2 quilts from it.
this one is a kit that i got last fall. it now resides with my mom.

same fabric line but 2 different looks.

this is the quilt that i made following KarrieLyn’s quilt along over at Freckled Whimsy.
this one might stay with me or get sent some where. who knows???

i really like how both of them turned out.
today i am headed to quilt camp for the rest of the week.
stay tuned for posts from there.
