we interrupt this blog

we interrupt this blog to bring you

my new niece!!!!!!

we were at camp on Sunday when i got the text at 10:15 in the morning.

contractions were 5 to 6 minutes apart but not intense. they wanted to let us know but they were not headed to the hospital yet.

we hit the road & my great friend Sharon packed up my stuff & brought it home for me.

from camp to Boise is about a 6 1/2 hour drive. we made it in a little over 5 hours.

the hospital admittance papers were signed at 4:20 & she was born at 4:45.
even though they got to the hospital around 2:00 the hospital wasn’t sure if the baby was going to be born then or not. little did they know……

********

needless to say mom, dad & baby are home now as well as big sister.

i feel like its still Sunday & i have been awake for 48 hours.

i will be here for awhile helping out as needed.
i will post some more pics of camp soon.
********
THANK YOU to all of my friends at quilt camp for your support over the weekend as we know it was touch & go there for awhile. THANKS again to Sharon for bringing my stuff home & taking it to my house.

WIP Wednesday

i have had a semi-busy week with work, family stuff & the flu. the flu was a total blast……NOT
i still managed to get some stuff done in sewing land.
i quilted this French General quilt which is for my mom & i got the binding sewin on it. i am in the middle of sewing down the binding.
i did finish sewing down the binding on this French General quilt. yep, 2 French General quilts. this one i did as a quilt along with KarrieLyne over at Freckled Whimsy. once our weather gets better here i will get outside & get a pic of it to share with you all.
yesterday in the mail i got 2 packages which i am sure are some more bee blocks.
something to look forward to when i get home this evening.
i also got the ribbon added as well as a bow & a button to this bag. i think that it really brought the bag to life.

i am in the middle of quilting this for my niece. i figured that if i was taking my new niece a quilt that i had to take my other niece one as well. i finished the quilt top last October at a camp & i am just now getting around to quilting it. i am about 1/2 way through it.

i have also started a quilt that is inspired by this book from The Buggy Barn. long story short we have 3 ladies expecting babies in our family this year. i was so hoping that one of them would be having a little boy so i could make this quilt for one of them. needless to say they are all having girls & i was grumbling about it because i really wanted to make this quilt. so, my dad said ‘i like trucks & tractors…. you can make it for me.’

so i am doing just that.
i am using the truck & tractor blocks but giving it my renegade twist with a different layout.
if you have never made a Buggy Barn quilt before i strongly encourage you to make one. they are a ton of fun to make. i think this is my 5th or 6th one.
********
up this next week i would love to finish the quilting on the quilt for my niece. plus a week from now i will be at quilt camp. so i have a lot of packing to get done.
i hope you all have an amazing week.
********
one more thing.
just as a reminder i am a guest judge over at Kim’s Crafty Apple for Project Quilting.
if you have never seen this give it a click & go check it out.
it should be fun.

My (soon to be) Niece’s Quilt

this adorable little monster is going to be a big sister soon.
real soon.
i made this quilt for her when she was born. it has hung in her nursery & she is well aware of who made it for her.
so……
i needed to make her soon to be little sister a quilt.

some applique’.

some rick rack.

some striped binding.

i followed Julie’s binding tutorial over at Jaybird Quilts.
it is awesome & i am a convert to bias binding now.

the backing is a Valori Wells print.

the quilt is a kit that i got at Fat Quarter Shop.

i am very please with how it turned out.

i hope that my soon to be niece will love it as much as i do.

WIP Wednesday

a few things got worked on in my sewing world this past week.
my friend Denise came over & we sewed on Sunday. we both were working on projects for the new baby that will be coming into our lives soon. i am the baby’s aunt & she is its grandma. so not only is Denise a great friend but a relative as well – through marriage.
Denise’s quilt for the baby has her name appliqued on it so that is what she is working on here.

remember this pile of fabric from last week?
well, i hacked it up & i have been sewing it back together.

putting some circles on.

putting some rick rack on.
its not done yet but i am hoping in the next couple days it will be done & i can start quilting it.

i have also started hand sewing the binding on 1 of my French General quilts this past week. i needed a little variety – hey its the spice of life….. right???
i hope you all have a wonderful week & a successful one no matter what you are doing.

WIP Wednesday

about a year ago at a quilt camp i met this great group of quilters who have a quilt shop about 45 minutes from me. sad to say, but it has taken me almost a year to get there. its called Material Girls Quilting & its a great shop with fabric, supplies, patterns, a big classroom & an accuquilt Studio Fabric Cutter. they rent out the cutter so people like me can come & chop up their fabric. so this past Saturday my friend Sharon & i had a road trip to Material Girls Quilting to use their cutter.
i got this fat quarter bundle sometime ago & really didn’t know what i was going to do with it – shocking i know. it caught my eye, i liked the colors & it was on sale. so while i was thinking about what i wanted to cut on the machine this bundle came to mind & the tumbler dye came to mind as well.

so, in about 10 minutes i had my 20 fat quarters cut up into tumblers. the Studio Fabric Cutter is amazing. you can cut between 8 & 10 layers at a time.

my next fabric that i picked to hack up on the machine was my Poppy fat quarters & i knew i wanted to do drunkards path with them.

they were a little more time consuming getting them on the dye. the way i folded the fat quarter on the dye i was able to get 2 blocks out of 1 fat quarter with very little waste.

i think that these will be fun to put together & see how they look. i have no idea when they will get put together but they are cut & this is something that i would never take the time to do by hand so it was well worth the trip there.

this is Sharon getting her fabric ready for the machine.

this past week i was able to finish up my postage stamp quilt & i love it. all the fabric came from my stash so i think that is a double bonus.

this is the fabric for my next project. a quilt for my niece who is going to be joining the world in about 7 weeks – that’s if she doesn’t come early like her big sister did.

********
i am headed to the big city for a couple doctor appointments & i have a gift card to one of my favorite quilt shops that i got for Christmas. check back to see what i get with that gift card.

today is a special day

today is a special day
its my dad’s birthday.
Happy Birthday Dad
when i first saw this commercial i thought “that is stupid”
then as i saw it a few more times i thought “that’s my dad”
let me clarify
ever since i can remember my dad loved to make firewood. in fact when i was younger we use to heat our house with a wood heat furnace. all summer long we would go camping & make firewood. even today when there is little to no need for firewood he never passes up the opportunity to make firewood.
so in his honor today on his birthday i share this with you. it really is my dad from the canvas coat, to the 4-wheeler, to the guy in the commercial.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!!!

kicking off 2011

i am having a slow kick-off to 2011 with regards to sewing.
buying fabric is another story.
********
at the end of 2010 i heard about another online sewing bee. it had openings & so i joined up with the group. its called Let’s Bee Together.
this is my 1st block for the group & its Linda’s block.
my month is February so i have been getting my fabric ready & block pattern picked.
********
i belong to another online sewing bee. its called Bee Splendid & this month is Molly’s month. below are the blocks that i made for her.

now for the other story. the fabric purchases so far in 2011.
if you don’t shop online for your fabric you are missing out. there were some fabulous deals to be had at various online shops at year end.

i have a thing for owls & this flannel just screamed pj pants.

i got these 2 flannels at JoAnn’s on sale.

some Origins on sale as well as 2 other fabrics for some more pj pants.

i got this kit above from Fat Quarter Shop & is going to be for my new niece who is due to arrive mid March.

last but not least i got this backing for a quilt for my niece who is going to be a big sister in March.
i got all of this fabric at 40% to 50% off. i’m tellin ya checkin out the online fabric shops is totally worth it.
********
i went to Dallas this past week. i took some hand work with me but didn’t touch it at all. when i wasn’t working i was sleeping even on the planes. i am planning on life getting back to ‘normal’ over the next week or so. that means getting back to sewing on a regular basis.

A year of travels

it has been a year of travel for me.
January 2010 took me to Washington DC
there i got to see Colin Powell speak.
do a little sight seeing.

& see Natalie Cole perform.

then the end of January was a trip to McCall for sewing & a mini trip to Boise to see my niece.

in March i went to a quilt camp at Palouse Divide Lodge – no pic of that.
in April i went back to Boise for more time with my niece.
also in April I went to St. Louis for work – no pic of that either.
in May it was the trip of a lifetime – all expenses paid – to the island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands.

on that trip we also sailed to Jost Van Dyke which is a British Virgin Island.
June was a month filled with doctors apts & several trips to Spokane.

in July a group of us headed to Sisters, OR for the Outdoor Quilt show.
i also went to Houston in July for work – no pics.
i was home the whole month of August except for the last few days when i made a quick trip to Boise to see DMB with my brother & SIL.
September kicked off with spending Labor Day weekend at the Gorge seeing DMB with Steph.

mid September i took a quick trip to Chicago to see DMB at Wrigley.

the end of September brought another quilt camp at Palouse Divide Lodge.

in October i went back to McCall with the Renegade’s for another quilt camp.

in November it was back to Palouse Divide Lodge for yet another quilt camp.
December was a trip to Seattle to see Dave & Tim as well as a quick weekend trip to Boise to see my family there – no pics of that trip.
********
looking back over 2010 i realize just how much i got to see & do & i am so grateful for the opportunities that my life brought me this past year.
i don’t expect to be traveling as much in 2011 however right out of the gate in January i am headed to Dallas for work. March will bring a trip to Boise to welcome my new niece. July we will head to Sister’s again. August to California for work. & i am hoping for some quilt camps scattered in there somewhere through out the year.

In the blink of an eye…..

and in the blink of an eye………
Christmas has come & gone & with it my family from Boise headed back home yesterday.
sad face…….
********
we had a great time hanging out, catching up & playing with this little monster.
my 2 1/2 year old niece. here she is modeling her Christmas coat that grandma got her. at 1st she didn’t want to put it on because ‘its too pretty’. but then once her little friend got there she had to put it on & then wouldn’t take it off.
she went & saw the Christmas lights in the local park which she loved & didn’t want to leave.
she is at that stage where she will tell you ‘no picture’ so getting a good shot can be a challenge with her.
********
this years Christmas was great for me. i got some quilting books i had been wanting, some gift cards to my favorite quilt shops and a Nook which i was totally surprised about. its Barnes & Noble’s e-reader however its like a mini ipad because there is a ton of other stuff you can do with it. my SIL got one as well & we were like 2 little girls figuring them out.
we had Christmas dinner at my parents house with over 20 people there spanning 4 generations. it was a very fun & enjoyable time.
i hope you all had a great Holiday this year!!!

Christmas Song

i have been crazy busy with getting all of my holiday projects/gifts finished up & wrapped up. i think that by tonight i should be finished but since i am running on about 3 hrs of sleep i have no idea what tonight will bring. especially since i have family coming into town tonight & i will be there to see my niece. oh well, i can see the finish line & i will get there come heck or high water.
********
today i have a video to share with you all. since i am a Dave Matthews freak i got an email yesterday from the freak, oh i mean fan club & it was a Merry Christmas message from Dave & this video of him & Tim Reynolds performing the Christmas Song in Vegas last year. i read that, hit play & about 20 seconds in i realized i was as that show. yep, my ace of a friend Stephanie & i flew into Vegas that morning, caught the show & flew out the next morning. awesome memories from that trip.
needless to say, this song ranks in my top 10 Dave songs so i thought i would share it with you all. i hope you enjoy it.
i have figured out my giveaway item so look for that post sometime after Christmas. i will also try & get some pics of my projects so you all can see what i have been working on.
********
i wish each & everyone of you a Happy & Healthy Holiday.
