Category: fabric purchases
WIP Wednesday

i am continuing to making progress on the flying geese.

i might get that top together over the next 4 days.
something else that i hope to get done is my block for the Sister’s quilt block challenge. for some insane reason i am drawing a blank on what to do with the fabric above. i am hoping that my quilting buddies will have some ideas.
i have my fabric all cut & ready for my 2nd H2H top. i will get that sewed up & ready to be quilted by this weekend. i have my 1st H2H top ready to be quilted as well.
i have to also share my latest & greatest purchase. its some of Ty’s fabric. need i say more? when i 1st saw it – it was love at 1st sight. but, i hadn’t bought any of it. until the Fat Quarter Shop put it on sale. can i just say that i love that place. like the majority of my fabric purchases lately i have no idea what i am going to do with it but i finally got some.
i will post some updates on our mini quilt camp. it will probably resemble a sweat shop instead of a camp but the end result will be the same.

this one is from Carolyn.
this one is from Melinda.

now onto some recent fabric purchases.
while i was in Boise i visited a few fabric shops.
1st up is Quilt Expressions.
i found the floral print & darker lining for another Cosmo bag & got some dark basics for my stash because we all know i don’t like setting quilts with light colors.
i also got this Moda Candy Bar box. i have been wanting to get one of these for awhile now but could never find one that i really, really loved. this one hit the spot with ‘bliss’.
the best part of it was that is was on sale. the box was beat up a little but ‘on sale’ HELLO of course i had to snatch it up.
the next stop was Quilt Crossing.
1st of all i about pasted out when i saw Neptune there let alone the other Tula Pink that i picked up while i was in that shop. i also got some laminated fabric for yet another Cosmo bag.
my last stop was Hobby Lobby
i found this yummy fabric there which i think i am going to use to make another (what i am calling) the zipper bag. i can’t remember the name of the pattern. i made one at camp which i have yet to show you but i will soon & then we will all know the name of the pattern.
currently i am working on some star blocks for Moda’s Just One Star project which i learned about from Rachel over at ps i quilt. go check it out & participate if you can.
i am also going to make some blocks for Beth over at Love Laugh Quilt who is putting together quilts for Japan. again, go check it out & participate if you can. thanks to Sarah over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict for featuring Beth on her blog if it wasn’t for that i wouldn’t know about this great cause.
Some New Things
Amy Butler’s new book. i have seen a few bags made from this book online & i knew i had to have this book. i have paged through it a few times & i am excited to make some of them – heck all of them. i already have the perfect fabric for the Cosmo bag – i just hope i have enough of it……
i also got this fabric while i was at the shop. the top 3 were all on sale 30% off. the blue one is from the same line that i cut my tumblers from using the Studio cutter. i will use this for a boarder & binding for that quilt. the other 2 greens will be pj pants – i think. the brown is just for the stash.
yesterday in the mail i received my 1st block back from my Let’s Bee Together online quilting bee. its from Shannon & i love how it looks. i am looking forward to the others arriving.kicking off 2011

now for the other story. the fabric purchases so far in 2011.if you don’t shop online for your fabric you are missing out. there were some fabulous deals to be had at various online shops at year end.
i have a thing for owls & this flannel just screamed pj pants.
i got these 2 flannels at JoAnn’s on sale.
some Origins on sale as well as 2 other fabrics for some more pj pants.
i got this kit above from Fat Quarter Shop & is going to be for my new niece who is due to arrive mid March.
last but not least i got this backing for a quilt for my niece who is going to be a big sister in March.Time Flys
in my last post i told you that we did some shopping when we were in Seattle. below is some pics of what i got.
i love this color combination. i am thinking a bag with it. i found this in a quilt shop in Woodenville.
we then ventured to Bothell & it was an adventure even with printed directions we had to turn around about 3 times & finally call the shop for directions. it was totally worth it because I found 2 charm packs of Plume & some yardage. as well as the Pure print that i have been looking for – its going to be binding on a quilt. the other was a fun print in their sale section & again i am thinking bag.

now onto some holiday related stuff.
another hobby i have is stamping which i mostly just make cards with. each year i make my own Christmas cards so i thought i would share it with you.
two of my favorite things. moose & the color green.
i thought that they would be quick & easy to make. well, card making is sort of like quilt making. you start out with a plan & it evolves from there. it wouldn’t have been too bad if i only had 10 to make but by the time i was done with 50 i was beginning to think i was stupid for changing my original idea. needless to say they are done & going in the mail today.
********
last night after i finished up these cards i cut out a quilt that i will sew together tonight. its super simple so i am keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. i will then need to quilt & bind it. i have another quilt awaiting its binding as well. i won’t bother telling you the status of the other 3 quilts……
like i said lots to do. who needs sleep anyways???
check back to see my progress……….
Randomness…..
but, 1st & foremost this adorable little girl (my niece) is gonna be a big sister in March….. WHOOOOO HOOOOOOO so that means i’m gonna be an aunt again. we are all super excited & already planning a baby shower along with all of the quilty items i can make for the upcoming addition.
yesterday, Sunday, i spent here at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown, WA helping with a fundraiser. this barn had been in my family for years until my great aunt & uncle donated it to the town of Uniontown 4 or 5 years ago. it is now home to several artists that have studio space there to work & sell their items. there is also a consignment shop in the barn where i sell my bags that i make. it was a lot of work yesterday but well worth it. the money raised will go to improvements on the barn.
i did get some sewing done on Saturday. i got the next 2 blocks made for Amy’s Simple Sampler Quilt Along.
this past week my friend Denise (a fellow Renegade) dropped this fabric off to me. its Christmas outfits to go with the paperdoll quilts that the 4 of us made last fall for the little girls in our families. Denise had seen this Christmas paperdoll fabric on vacation & was kind enough to get some for all of us as an i love you present.
thanks Denise – LOVE YA!
i found the fabric below at the Dahmen Barn on Saturday when we were setting up for the fundraiser. being green i had to have it. the best part was the price. 2 1/2 yds for $3 – amazing i know. people are always donating random items to the barn & this was one of them. lucky me!
mr mailman was kind to me this past week & brought me my siggy blocks. i totally LOVE everyone of them. i even took them to work & showed them off. i have been thinking about the layout for these & more then likely won’t get to put these together till quilt camp next month.
a SUPER HUGE THANK YOU goes out to Julie for all of her hard work in organzing, sorting & remailing the blocks back to all of us. YOU ROCK!!!
mr mailman was my friend a 2nd time last week when he brought me this big box of yumminess. Natalia of Piece N Quilt was selling her scraps & i was the lucky person who hit purchase 1st. this box is loaded with AWESOME stuff from fabric lines i have wanted to completed blocks. i have sorted it out some & i think i have 6 projects planned for her “scraps”.
i also got this block sewed up for my local block swap. i know its simple but that’s what i wanted so i could get it done quickly if need be.
last, but not least i have been trimming HST for Karrie’s Charm Pack QA. there are 150 of them & i think i am half way through trimming. then it will be on to step 2. i hope to get that done before Sunday when she posts step 3.
so a bunch of randomness this past week.
i hope to spend sometime in my sewing cave this week & knock out the final few blocks for a couple quilt alongs as well as start some quilting on another quilt. i need to make a list of quilt camp projects & start prepping those as well. i can’t believe camp will be here in about 5 weeks.
in about 2 weeks i will be heading to Boise to kick off my adventure of 6 DMB shows in 20 days. my younger brother & sil will be going to the Boise show with me & i am pretty sure that they will either disown me or have me committed after attending the show with me. all i ask is for him to wait 20 days to commit me…….
i hope you all have a great week whatever you may be doing!
Sister’s Part 2 (the purchases) & Some Gifts
this past week was my birthday & i got a few quilt related gifts for that. the French General kit & the new Buggy Barn book i thought were gifts to myself but i later found out that someone else took care of that bill for me – that was a very nice surprise – many thanks!!!!!
the fat quarters on the left were from my BFF & the green shirt on the right was from a couple of my Renegade buddies. we all go to a quilt camp that one night at dinner everyone is to wear red – well i don’t follow the rules very well so they all got red shirts & got me a green one – i LOVE it!!!!
the little purse picture frame & green fat quarter is from a Renegade as well. very fitting i thought since i am a purse fanatic as well as a green freak.
the following pics are of my Sister’s trip purchases – you don’t realize how much you bought until you unpack it all & start taking pics of it – wow! needless to say i have a bit of sewing to get done.
i only bought 3 patterns but i LOVE each of them. the quilt pattern can be made using fat quarters, jelly rolls, layer cakes or charm packs.
several green fat quarters & fat eighths for my asterisk quilt.
yardage of some good basic browns – we all know i don’t like setting blocks in light fabric.
some more owl or as my niece calls it “who who” fabric – perhaps a bag – & yes Sharon i did buy this on the trip it was just folded in with some other fabric.
no plans for this fabric – i just LOVED it & had to have it.
same as above – but these colors are so not my norm but i was drawn to them & they were on sale so i got some yardage – maybe a stack & whack.
i fell in LOVE with this line last year & didn’t buy it. it was on sale this year so i got some. again, no plans.
maybe some cropped pj pants out of this & a skirt for my niece.
i know, again with the “who who” fabric – no idea but i am starting to build a collection of owl fabric.
refer to comment above
pj pants for myself out of the green snowflake fabric & a pair for my SIL out of the other.
so there you have it. my Sister’s trip purchases & potential projects for the upcoming year. i personally have another rule about Sister’s & it is just for myself. i (ideally) like to finish/use everything i have purchased from the prior year before i make the trek next year. we will see how i do…….
i took my Bernnina in to have it serviced yesterday & left it there & when i say there i am referring to Spokane which is 2 hours away from me. i didn’t know how to behave without a sewing machine in my house so i went to my parents & got my old Viking to use until i get my baby back. crazy i know but what can i say.
i head to Houston on Sunday for work then after that trip i am home for most of August – so the month of August will be devoted to sewing. i can’t believe that August is going to be here so soon – crazy scary.
i hope everyone has a great next week or so & i will be back at the machine before i know it – darn job anyways!!!!!
